[Update: ZenFone 6 rebranded to 6z] ASUS can no longer sell phones under the ZenFone brand in India

Looking at Flipkart’s listing, it seems that ASUS has taken quick action in rebranding for India. The ZenFone 6 will now be called “ASUS 6z” there. The listing does

ASUS’s ZenFone line may not be popular stateside, but that’s not the case in overseas markets. Unfortunately, it looks like the ZenFone phones may soon have to be completely rebranded in India. This is thanks to a lawsuit made by Telecare Network, which owns the trademarks “ZEN” and “ZENMOBILE” in the country.

FCC ruling says carriers can block robocallers by default

The United States Communications Commission (or FCC, for short) has been discussing what to do about the increasingly-annoying problem of robocalling for a while. Today it unanimously passed a ruling that gives the green light for carriers to block unwanted robocalls by default.

An official press statement reads, “the Commission approved a Declaratory Ruling to affirm that voice service providers may, as the default, block unwanted calls based on reasonable call analytics, as long as their customers are informed and have the opportunity to opt out of the blocking.”

ASUS can no longer sell phones under the ZenFone brand in India

ASUS’s ZenFone line may not be popular stateside, but that’s not the case in overseas markets. Unfortunately, it looks like the ZenFone phones may soon have to be completely rebranded in India. This is thanks to a lawsuit made by Telecare Network, which owns the trademarks “ZEN” and “ZENMOBILE” in the country.

Telecare Network claimed that it had been using “ZEN” and “ZENMOBILE” in its product branding since 2008, and that ASUS’s “ZenFone” name, introduced to the Indian market in 2014, is identical or deceptively similar to those trademarks.
